Iftar for everyone at Cumilla Town Hall

From the first day of Ramadan 2026, the coalition Cumillar Jonno Amra served free iftar at Cumilla Town Hall, with TECHious running the daily operations.

On 19 February 2026, the first day of Ramadan, free iftar distribution began at Cumilla Town Hall. The initiative, called “সবার জন্য ইফতার” (Iftar for Everyone), was planned for every day from the first to the thirtieth of Ramadan. It was organised by “কুমিল্লার জন্য আমরা” (Cumillar Jonno Amra, "We for Cumilla"), a coalition of local groups, and operations were run by TECHious. In its first-day post, TECHious said the team was starting its iftar distribution "like every year".

How it worked

Several organisations joined forces under the "We for Cumilla" banner. Volunteers prepared the food on site: photos show teams chopping salad, mixing chickpea chola in large steel bowls and setting up a distribution table under the arched gate of the Town Hall.

The coalition asked the public for help in kind or in cash. Donations of rice, chicken, chickpeas, sugar, oil and puffed rice were welcome, and people could also cook and bring food themselves. Town Hall was the main collection point, with the Dighir Chap restaurant added as a second drop-off point on day two.

The numbers, as announced

Updates on the coalition's pages reported iftar for about 250 people on day two, 300 on days three and four, and around 300 to 400 on day five. The organisers set themselves a goal of serving more than 30,000 people across Ramadan, and hoped to prepare 1,000 to 1,500 iftar meals a day from the tenth day onwards. These are targets announced by the organisers; final totals have not been published.

The coalition's founder, Fazlur Rahman Fahim, also served as an adviser to YouthGEN 2025. Later in Ramadan, TECHious hosted a separate iftar evening for Cumilla's youth organisations: মিল্লা ঝিল্লা কুমিল্লার ইফতার.
